This weeks theme of “Groups” fit in well with our family visit to watch a Salt Lake Bees baseball game at Spring Mobile Park. I love watching the Bees play as they’re a great team with a talented roster and the home crowd always gets into the game, not to mention the ballpark itself is absolutely beautiful and they let you bring in your camera!
I still haven’t been able to get the perfect sunset shot I’ve had in mind at this place, but a walk around the outfield with my fisheye gave me a fighting chance of getting a good shot, if only the clouds would have cooperated and let the Sun shine through instead of closing it down just before the exciting colors really started, but this one will do.
We went to the game because it was on the 24th of July, a Utah holiday where we celebrate the arrival of the Mormon Pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. We celebrate this day here in Utah pretty much the same as the 4th of July which means picnics and fireworks, and the Bees always put on a great show, it’s become a quasi family tradition to watch the game and fireworks.
This year was a great game against the Fresno Grizzlies they had 2 runs in the first inning and we were playing catch up the rest of the game. Here are (more than) a few shots from the game…
Now some game play, I’ll spare you the details of each shot, you can find the play by play breakdown here.
Jeremy Berg closes it out with a strike out and the Salt Lake Bees have a chance to win…
The Fresno Grizzlies switch pitchers bringing in Heath Hembree
Following Andrew Romine’s strike out Matt Long has a chance to be the hero…
And goes down swinging! Drew Heid is so ready to run!
Enter Kole Calhoun…
With the game over the fans on the back lawn come into the field and we wait for the fireworks.
Shooting fireworks without a tripod can be tricky, but I think I’ve got it figured out. feet on seat in front of you, a camera bag, to sit the camera on, and steady breaths!
I know this was a long post, thanks for sticking it out with me, I hope you enjoyed the shots and saw what’s possible to shoot at a ball game even from a spectators seat so don’t forget to take your camera.
Happy Shooting!
Howard
